Great Maui Beaches near your Wailea Condo
When it comes to good beaches, South Maui really has the BEST!! This is where the tropical beach dream comes true. Many perfect sand stretched beaches with a gentle surf, clear warm water and palm trees make the perfect setting. Most have public restrooms along with showers as well. The best beaches in Maui are in Wailea.
Favorites
Ulua Beach – Between the Marriott and the Baccarat
This is a great dive and snorkel spot. It is a bit too well known, however it is always an easy access and usually good visibility along with it being a bit sheltered from the wind. Great snorkeling/diving in the morning and then boogie boarding is fun in the afternoon. There are also some trees for shade. There are restrooms and showers along with a parking lot. (It does fill up from time to time)
Wailea Beach – in front of the Grand Wailea
Another outstanding beach. Over 1/3 mile long. This beach has been ranked as the best beach in America. Clear water, beautiful setting, and excellent for swimming. Boogie boarding in the afternoon and snorkeling if you go to either side where the coral is. I usually valet park at the Grand Wailea and get it validated with a Mai Tai or pupu. They don’t seem to mind if you use their chairs either.
Makena Beach - in front of The Makena Beach and Golf Resort (there is a public access just the nest right turn....actually an easier access and public showers and restrooms)
This beach is a favorite. One of the best snorkel spots in South Maui. It has beautiful coral and plenty of fish, eel, and an occasional ray. There really are loads of turtles. I visit the same one every time I go there and it is appx. 6 ft. You have to go out and around to the south ( left) end. This spot is known for its turtle towns. Public restrooms and showers are available. It is a short walk to the Maui Prince for a beverage or lunch.
Big Beach – Past Maui Prince….it is a State Park.
This beach got its name rightfully. It is almost 2/3 mile long and over 100 ft. wide. It’s Hawaiian name if Oneloa (meaning long sands). It is a very popular beach and although they have a larger parking lot, it is usually full. It is great for boogie boarding, and you usually get to see plenty of locals showing off their tricks. No public restrooms, however they do have porta-potties and a few picnic tables.
Worth the Drive
Black Rock Beach – At the Sheraton in Ka’anapali
This has a lot to offer for a beach day away from Wailea. Go early and get a spot on the beautiful sandy beach. The snorkeling and cliff diving are a legend. There are lots of fish and you are almost promised to see a turtle along with beautiful coral. Start from the Sheraton and work your way around the black rock. There is a cliff diving ceremony every evening at sunset along with a commentary and hula dancers at the pool bar. Get there around 5pm and get a pupu or beverage and enjoy!
Ho’okipa Beach Park – After Pa’ia, just before the 9-mile marker
There is no better place to be to watch the expert windsurfers. Nice waves after 11 am. It is considered the single best beach in the United States to windsurf. You will see awesome tricks. It is a great stop to stop at after a ½ day trip to Hana.
JAWS – World-class surfing……..this is what you see on TV with the surfers being towed out on jet skis and saved when necessary. Waves get up to 70 feet. Less than 15 feet waves are like nothing. You do need a four-wheel drive to get there. If the surf is up, then the most direct route is from Hwy 36 to Hahana Road. Go to the left on Hanana after the fork, and take the dirt road at the end of Hahana.
